Wrestler's uploads
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:55:40 AM »

I've just posted two Fawcett titles to the FTP site:

Hoppy_the_Marvel_Bunny__01__1945__Fawcett_.cbr
Hoppy_the_Marvel_Bunny__02__1946__Fawcett_.cbr

These are scans by Klatuub, a well-known scanner,
that I downloaded from  another watering hole.  Issue 03 is
up there, and I will probably get and post that soon, if no one
beats me to the punch.

Actually we already have scans of 1 and 2 as well all uploaded on the same day, although our #2 seems to have a corrupt page, so hopefully yours has the text story. Thanks for uploading it wrestler.

l will download the #1 we have and check how many pages it has, but if it is complete l will not upload Klatuub's other scan, unfortunately we only need 1 scan of each comic.

OK.  I don't see either of the Hoppys on the site, yet.  Just for good measure,
I just uploaded Hoppy_the_Marvel_Bunny__003__1946__Fawcett_.cbr

A search shows that this was here in 2007, but I'm assuming it got lost in the crash.

Hmm, not sure where you are looking Wrestler.
Hoppy-Bunny #3 is also on the site.
It doesn't have it's own folder, it's just in the Fawcett section after all the other titles who do have folders.
Doing a search for 'Bunny' would have turned it up as well.

Thanks for trying to help the cause though all the same.

No comics were lost in the crash Wrestler, it was only the names of the newer uploads we lost, all have since been identified.

I just discovered a message from Yoc in my email, encouraging me to troll Usenet binary groups for potential upload material.  I've just made a preliminary pass at this and discovered a bunch of Prize Comics issues of Fighting American.

For now, I've just uploaded Fighting_American_6.cbz.   It seems to be complete, although I think the inside front and back covers may be out of sequence.  The stories all proceed sequentially.

I've also downloaded FA #2, but several pages in it have bad scans where only half the page is visible.  Don't know if it's worth uploading this or not.  There are several other issues that I will try to grab and investigate.

Hi Wrestler,
Thanks for the share.  Please don't bother uploading any incomplete scans.  Somebody else might have the complete one to upload down the road.

If you can see who is uploading scans on usenet please especially look for stuff scanned by 'Jon' as his connection is so slow I know he'd appreciate any help getting his scans onto GAC.  As it so happens this book IS a Jon scan so thanks to both you and Jon for the share!

Might also be a good idea to send me a PM asking any books you plan to upload if there isn't already an issue of that title on GAC as some aren't public domain.

Thanks again for your help,
-Yoc

OK.  IMHO, Fighting American is one of the truly great comics of its time.
I've just uploaded issues #4, #5, and #7 from the same batch of Jon's
scans on Usenet.

Sure Wrestler though there is some question about are the public domain.   :-\
Until I have 100% confirmation from Aussie I will be removing the FA scans from the site and not adding your news ones.
This is not to slight your efforts but for now please look for some other materials to upload.

Thanks,

OK.  Since you were the one who uploaded FA#1, I thought these were OK.  It's true that Marvel acquired the rights and reprinted all the issues of FA in 1989.  (I've got a copy of that collection.)  But DC has done the same thing with Fawcett titles, and the consensus here seems to be that it's safe to post those.

Marvel did not acquire the rights to Fighting American.  They simply reprinted the material under license.  It is my understanding that Joe Simon owns Fighting American (he claims to in any case).  I've heard that he is negotiating to have much of the late forties to fifties Simon & Kirby material reprinted.

In deference to S and K/family being able to make more from the reprints I would be for not putting them up here at the present even if PD.  If they are PD we can always add them later after sales of the reprints.

Good Point Jim, in fact I have hardcopies of all the S+K reprints issued to date, Fighting American, Boys Ranch, Blue Bolt and something called 'Captain America ' ( twice) and I for one will be first to grab Stuntman, Bulleseye and Boy Explorers as and when some far sighted publisher deems fit to release them.

Nice as scans may be I would always rather have the 'Real Thing' if made available at an affordable price.

Hi guys,
thanks for your input on the subject.
But there's also a question about Black Magic, Bulls-eye, Foxhole and Police Trap still lingering.
IF any are not PD which ones?

I defer to Aussie on the subject.
