Ontology uploads
« on: September 06, 2008, 10:37:51 PM »

Hi folks,
I've been uploading just about everything I've been scanning lately to the FTP whether GA-UK friendly (copyright free) or not, but I guess I'm supposed to announce them in here, too (Aussie told me, heh). Well, I see Yocitrus has been taking care of many of my scans so far anyway (Thanks, Yoc!).

Anyway, I just uploaded to FTP:
Crown Comics 002 (Golfing - Summer 1945) (36p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Real Clue Crime Stories v6 08 (Hillman - Oct 1951) (52p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Real Clue Crime Stories v7 12 (Hillman - Feb 1953) (36p c2c) (Ontology).rar

I know these are GA-UK friendly. I haven'y really mastered uploading these to the actual GA-UK website per se, so this is as far as I'm taking it: to the FTP and then announce (any more, I'll mess it up, lol).

btw - I know pretty much all the  "old book" scanners I've seen posting/posted here, except for powder solvang, other eric, and narfstar. So I'd like to take this opportunity to say I have been enjoying ALL of your scans IMMENSELY, and welcome you to our extended scanning family (and "extended" is an understatement! lol).  ;)

Hello Ontology I have enjoyed your scans here and elsewhere.  Given the wealth of stuff that is showing up so quickly we will have a substantial volume of what was produced.  I pride myself on the obscure and recently scanned Slapstick.  I pick up low quality books of all kinds and scan as much as I can.  narfstar JIM

Well said Ont!
Happy to help out with sharing your stuff.
I can usually tell when something new has been added to the FTP but sometimes I miss them.  So announcing a scan gives others a chance to say thanks for your own hard work while getting my attention to add it to the site.  Others have used it as a way to check against duplication or to clear up that fuzzy public domain status that I'll never get my head around beyond the obvious ones like Marvel and DC.  Sure glad Aussie is here to handle that!

Take care,
-Yoc

Added your new books Ont.  Thanks!

Looking at Crown Comics 2.  I don't see Baker in that cover but I do in the Clue Kelly story which is listed as perhaps Feldstein on GCD.

Thanks for the welcome, Ontology.  I hope my small upgrades to your scan of Animal 19 were acceptable to you; your Animal scans were some of the very first books I grabbed when I found the site.

OtherEric,
On the Animal #19, I appreciate the upgrades, and thank you for all the other Animal scans you have done. :)
I just finished scanning Animal #7 myself, and will post it when I get it edited (a "no pogo" issue, heh).
I hope we get to see Animal #1 some day! I've been wanting to get a look at that first pogo (or albert, pogo was the sidekick) appearance for many decades.

The first Pogo story from Animal #1 was reprinted in The Smithsonian Book of Comic Book Comics.

And in the first volume of the Complete Pogo Comics.  It's findable.  But I still want to find the original; it has some other Kelly material.

For those of you who don't have it, The Smithsonian book is one of the greatest collections of GA Comics ever put together.  It has a gaping hole in that there's no Simon & Kirby material, but other than that it's an insanely impressive book.  (Just from memory, it has Kelly, Barks, Mayer, Wolverton, Eisner, Stanley, and Carlton stories.)

And thanks for the Animal 7, even if it is a non-Kelly issue.  The more I see of Animal the more baffled I am by the book; each new issue has a sense of "what the heck should we try _this_ issue?"

I always wondered why Our Gang #6 had a Pogo story and Animal #7 didn't.  I wondered if they moved a story to OG to fill a space.  Of course the comics came out months apart.

I'm pretty sure the Our Gang #6 story, if it was ever meant for Animal, was meant for #4; it came out between Animal #3 and #4.  6 and 7, I have no idea unless a) Kelly was busy on something else, or b) they actually, if briefly, meant to drop Albert from the title.  I briefly considered it being due to the page count drop; but that doesn't hold up in the face of the new features being added in 6 and 7.

Six new uploads to the FTP:
Little Archie 039 (Archie - Summer 1966) (68p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Warfront 006 (Harvey - May 1952) (Ontology) (36p c2c).rar
Justice Traps the Guilty 042 (Prize - Sept 1952) (44p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Justice Traps the Guilty 047 (Prize - Feb 1953) (44p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Justice Traps the Guilty 049 (Prize - April 1953) (36p c2c) (Ontology).rar
Justice Traps the Guilty 075 (Prize - June 1955) (36p c2c) (Ontology).rar

I know Little Archie isn't PD, but the other five should be OK.

Brides In Love 012 (Charlton - April 1959) (Hal-Ont) 36p c2c.rar
Famous Stories 001 (Dell 1942) (JVJ-Ont) 60p c2c.rar
Li'l Genius 022 (Charlton - July 1959) (Hal-Ont) 36p c2c.rar
Rocky Lane Western 067 (Charlton - May 1955) (Hal-Ont) 36p c2c.rar

This Magazine Is Haunted 016 (Charlton- Mar 1954) (JVJ-Ont) 36p c2c.rar

Four are JVJ's books, all eight are public domain, I believe.
May do another or so before weekend is up.

OK,
Newest batch of JVJ's paper scanned and uploaded to FTP (with any JVJ index card notes included in NFO - sorry Jim, I kinda wondered what the index cards were for):

Rocket Kelly 004 (Fox - AugSept 1946) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar
Atomic Comics 001 (Green - Jan 1946) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar (no index card notes)
Crown Comics 005 (Golfing - Spring 1946) (JVJ-Ont) (44p c2c).rar
Crown Comics 006 (Golfing - Summer 1946) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar
Crown Comics 007 (Home Guide - Nov 1946)(JVJ-Ont) (48p no cf).rar
Crown Comics 009 (Home Guide - Spring 1947) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar
Crown Comics 010 (McCombs - Aug 1947) (JVJ-Ont) (48p no cf).rar
Crown Comics 012 (McCombs - Feb 1948) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar
Crown Comics 013 (McCombs - May 1948) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar
Crown Comics 014 (McCombs - Summer 1948) (JVJ-Ont) 52p c2c.rar

Two issues are missing cf, which I didn't notice until I got into the nitty gritty.
Issue #14 cover says Aug 1948, indicia says Summer 1948. I forgot to put that in NFO, darnit.
What the heck, a picture is worth a thousand words, right? It's all right there. :)
