Surely this wasn't the first appearance of this Saint story. Or was it? I always thought Simon Templar was originally intended for general audiences.

One interesting ad urges boys 15 to 17-1/2 years old to join the Royal Navy. Send for the illustrated booklet!

To all intents and purposes he did.   Hodder published a few books prior to this, but as a series, The Saint started in The Thriller.  Not sure about this one  - I'd have to ask my pal Russell who is a bit of an expert.
As an aside, other characters started in Thriller incl. The Toff, the long lived John Creasey character, and Mr. J.G. Reeder, the Edgar Wallace  hero.
