This is the story of the Swiss Family Robinson - the family consists of James Robinson, his wife and four young sons - the youngest child, Francis, is five years of age and the eldest Son Fritz is fourteen.

The close of the French Revolution found Robinson in greatly reduced circumstances and to repair his fortunes he determined to become a settler in New Zealand - with a stock of farming implements and a few personal belongings the family embarked for the distant country.
