Dick Briefer retconned his monster twice. At first the monster was 20 ft tall, and his face unbelievable. He lived only to kill, kill, kill. Eventually he became more & more human and finally became a comedy figure, and needed a whole new origin. This went on for a while, and then, a 2nd revision, back to basics, a misunderstood monster (this issue's reboot). Like Hulk, Swamp Thing , Bog Beast...(Atlas Seaview)...
