NotesScans from the Ella Cinders comic strip. It was a good series, with witty dialogue and a sense of irony underneath the old serial-style melodrama.

Strip sequence from July 1927.

Was this strip meant to be taken seriously? It reads like an old-fashioned stage melodrama. The dialogue overflows with the crazy similes that later became associated with tough-guy detectives ("It'll be as tough as finding a snappy spender in Scotland!"). Punning character names were a must-have in these old strips. My favorite here is "O. Watters Neek." Too much narration addressed to the reader. I kind of like it, but then again I don't.
