Madeleine’s brother Willie beats Jim in a match and Jim vows to change his life and marry Madeleine.

She was in line for promotion to office manager, but Jack learned what she did to Nancy (a war widow with two children) and broke up with her. Mr. DeWitt fires Gloria and says her confession was all for nothing: Jack left for the West Coast that morning.
