Robert Shaw got his start on television with this landmark series the Buccaneers. This episode introduces his brawling and near bawdy character. The production values are typical for this era with tawdry set designs and loud snappy dialogue, but through it all Shaw's performance shines. The plot may be predictable but this reformed pirate who is not invincible but is borderline heroic steals not only gold but the hearts of viewers.
