SynopsisPhyllis and her Aunt Melissa live in historic Dendrik Manor. Phyllis is attracted to new neighbor Dennis, but he can’t understand her devotion to the “tradition” of the house, which requires constant upkeep that she and her aunt can't afford. Phyllis has to spend much of her time earning money as a singer, and turns down a marriage proposal from Dennis because that would take her away from the Manor. Before she dies, Aunt Melissa urges Phyllis not to waste any more of her life on empty tradition. Phyllis sells Dendrik Manor and is reunited with Dennis.

Bob is fired because he vouched for her and they break up. To apologize, Lily arranges for Bob to get a job in her office, and they reconcile.

Diane tells her Fred is seeing other women. When the doctor tells Diane that Linda is losing the will to live and needs to see Fred, Diane makes sure Fred doesn’t go. Fred says he loves Linda and rejects Diane. Diane rushes to the hospital and apologizes to Linda, who says she forgives her. Linda recovers and will marry Fred.

SynopsisJanet is engaged to Mark, a reform candidate for district attorney. She is selfish and impulsive, never considering the ramifications of her actions. Janet tricks Mark into meeting her on a gambling ship, which is raided: this will end Mark’s political career. He breaks up with her. To save Mark’s campaign, Janet steals an exposé book Mark was writing and has it distributed to voters, proving he’s no hypocrite. Mark wins the election and comes back to Janet.
