The Somerset Maughn story ' Miss Thompson' has serious history. This was its first publication anywhere, as outlined here. https://tarahanks.com/2016/01/25/born-on-this-day-w-somerset-maugham-1874-1965/#more-5804 [H.L. Mencken, one of two publishers of the literary magazine, Smart Set, recalled in his autobiography, My Life as Author and Editor: “’Miss Thompson’ was meat too strong for the popular magazines, which were the chief American markets, and so Maugham’s agent, the American Play Company, was unable to sell it. As a last resort, it was sent to my partner and we published it in the issue for April 1921 and it almost went unnoticed.”] It was turned into the movie RAIN, about which go here. http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/161058%7C161060/Rain.html A real find for the site.
