Generally entertaining funny animal story and (to my surprise) it didn't contain any shoe-company propaganda (in the story itself).

That was the case with other shoe store comics, too. Both Poll Parrot (which like Reddy Goose was produced by Western) and Buster Brown had only a couple of ad pages, usually the inside and back covers. Poll, Reddy Goose, and in later issues Buster Brown appeared in stories but they had nothing to do with shoes. In an era of beat-your-head-with-it product placement, this is refreshing.
