We get another piece of the build-up to Buck swapping Zola for Twilight. Buck isn't exactly mean to Zola...more like distracted. It's clear where his thoughts are. I half expect Zola to get fed up and toss Buck overboard or something.

My pick for today! The tension between Zola and Twilight is magnificent and, gosh, I wouldn’t know how to choose. A cracking tale of Caribbean calumny – don’t miss it! PS Anyone else remember playing a crude form of Mikado in school during break with ice lolly sticks?

It seems that at this point, the intention was just to put Zola and Twilight together on one side purely to create romantic tension. The way Zola is portrayed here is cringeworthy, definitely not politically correct by today's standards. From a narrative point of view I would guess they enjoyed writing Twilight, since they have continually highlighted her hijinks. She has more dramatic possibilities because of her background, so it makes sense that she would come to have a more dominant role to play than Zola. Pity. Nice girls finish last?

I do not like the way they defang Twilight, and I think it was on popular demand not certain it was the creators idea.
