the artwork on this is amazing. It's by J Miller-Watt better known as the creator of 'Pop" Thanks Paw. I remember Pop fondly, but his style thee is nothing like the work he has done here and for other issues of this series. As the two examples on Lambiak demonstrate, he was an amazing visionary stylist and could do amazing things in only a few panels. Is 'Pop' something that could be uploaded on CB+ I wonder? https://www.lambiek.net/artists/w/watt_jm.htm

I second the Panther. Millar-Watt's artwork is incredible! Hard to imagine the almost-minimalist "Pop" style came from the same pen that created these lush images. Story's pretty good, too. A hit! A palpable hit!

Issue date: 6 Aug 1957 • Cover art: Enrico De Seta • IFC: film still of David Niven and Edmund Purdom in "The King's Thief" (1956) • On the cover, the artist has based D'Artagnan on Walter Abel in the 1935 RKO film. The scroll on the title cel conceals the figure of the queen (who doesn't appear in this story) and the third musketeer. An oddity in Millar Watt's artwork: On page 18 King Louis has lost his beard and gained a wig - the artist appears to have momentarily confused him with the Sun King. For his admirers it's regrettable that Millar Watt never painted a Musketeers cover for this series, alongside his Robin Hood, Dick Turpin and Captain Blood covers. He should have done Claude Duval and Rob Roy as well.
