NotesThis story is compiled from pages supplied by the now defunct ADCCC, originally appearing in Triumph, 1939 or '40. Art by the great Nat Brand (Len Fullerton). This is the only complete Derickson Dene story at the moment, it would appear.

Pretty cool! Nice art, rousing adventure, and a secret code to use when I'm passing notes in class. I would've preferred some dialogue, but that's a mere cavil. Comic artists just couldn't get enough of Alex Raymond...the figure swiped in the last panel of page one was still in service in the late 60s (Don Sherwood) after passing through a couple of dozen fellow cartoonists.

Stirring stuff - thanks, Paw! Strong sense of movement in every panel. Was this the first appearance of a Batman in a comic book, I wonder?

As we don't have the exact date, we can't be sure. However, the batman style character was around earlier in British storypapers. The serial, Flying Justice appeared in Boys World, 1927, and featured illos of a very Bat like figure. A hero in this case.

Paw, you've hit the jackpot again! I'd never heard of this character before and getting a complete story is a real treat! Will be looking for more of Brand/Fullerton's work- such a treat for the eye! With a huge thanks, Cheers, Bowers
