The photo in the front of the book, which is credited to "Columbia" makes me wonder if this is based on a Columbia Pictures serial? I don't recognize the actor though.

I believe this is a still from "The Bandit of Sherwood Forest," released by Columbia in 1948. Cornel Wilde played Robert of Nottingham, the son of Robin Hood.

First Story here is something all to rare in comics, one long chase scene. Wonderfully illustrated too.
