Swipe or no swipe, that's one heck of a cover, especially for the mid-1940s!
   By The Australian Panther
The giveaway is - that's a swing, not a punch. There was something in his hand in the original. A Hammer? Was this an early version of Thor from Kirby? The wings on the Helmet are generic Kirby too. I don't think its a swipe, itts too good, More like a copy. it may have been lifted wholes from somewhere else.

If you ignore the wings on the helmet, it kind of looks like DC Comics' Guardian from Simon & Kirby's Newsboy Legion, so either an unused Guardian sketch with wings added and shield removed, or a tracing of an interior drawing since I couldn't find a cover with Guardian looking like that at the GCD.

Additional Information

PublicationOctober 1945 | Price: 0.10 USD | Pages: 1 | Frequency: quarterly
NotesArtist credits from "Action! Mystery! Thrills! Comic Book Covers of the Golden Age: 1933-45" (Fantagraphics, 2011). Character on cover is not one of the featured characters inside. There is no reason to think that Kirby ever worked for Jason Comic Art. Therefore this is almost certainly a swipe.
