| You'd think we could get an artist listed for all the discomfort endured. This is very creepy. |

| It's initialed by Norman Nodel on the bottom of the inside front cover. |

| The interiors do look like Nodel, though in spots I'd swear Vince Colletta lent a hand. It might have just been Nodel trying to make his inking extra slick. Colletta did indeed work on later issues. Whoever it was he gave Barbie breast reduction surgery. |

| There's something really Stepford about this - an air hostess (who happens to be a world-class ballerina in her spare time and a nurse at weekends) has fan clubs all over the country and never looks tired? She knows lots of cloned men all called Ken - even marries one of them, though I guess it doesn't matter which one. Everyone is smiling ALL THE TIME - and all the black people have all evaporated.
Were there really Barbie fan clubs and did they have shopping committees? I think we should be told. |

| Barbie and Ken, what can I say that's positive? Well for one thing, the artist really captured those doll like figures and the staring eyes were clearly an intentional touch. I think he did a 'swell' job for the young audience who would have read these. All the females had that 'stepford wives' look in their eyes and whilst somewhat creepy, it was perfect for this run. |

| That bottom right panel on page 7 where four “people” are laughing in a cockpit is so disturbing it feels like your eyeballs are wearing a straitjacket. |

| Interesting premise: Barbie and Ken aren't "real people," instead the individual stories are fantasies concocted by the members of the Fan Club. Can't really imagine this translated to other comics. "Hi, I'm Jimmy Olsen! Let me tell you a story I made up about this fictional character called Superman and how he became my best friend!"
Also, the back page art gives Barbie a GIANT forehead. |
