| Lovely stuff Paw.
Although it says the stories are redrawn, comparing 'Skull Island Killers' with the story in Black Cat #20 (Harvey), apart from it being black and white, they look virtually identical. But, I'm no expert.
I wonder if it was some way of getting around a copyright issue? |

| The self defense strips are by Lee Elias; it says so on the page. I have seen other foreign comics, probably downloaded here, that something like "drawn locally by local artists", but wasn't familiar enough with the originals to be sure they weren't just reprints of the American art. All the art on the Black Cat stories looks like it was done by Lee Elias.

If memory serves, some countries had (or still have) requirements for some media material to be locally produced (thus Bob and Doug McKenzie on SCTV for the CBC in 1980). Perhaps claiming that the book was drawn by local artists entitled them to some form of tax or mailing benefits.

| Dave, I'm convinced these stories were reproduced from stats of the black & white art and not redrawn or traced. The small details like dots in foliage, individual whiskers, arm hair, etc. are the same in both the Australian and American versions. I'm thinking the publisher had a backroom deal with Harvey (or a stateside go-between?) to get stats for publication. |

| In relation to this comic, it's worth remembering that there was a period where American comics (and all US publications) were embargoed from import to Australia. This embargo started with the onset of World War Two, and continued until 1959. It's possible that one copy of Black Cat #20 was brought in and printing plates created from it. |
