| [The Hall Room Boys (later retitled Percy & Ferdie) was a comic strip by a Nova Scotian cartoonist living in New York City by the name of H.A. McGill.]
The Hall Room boys were the subject of a number of Silent film shorts, some of which can be found here.
They are not shot well, but the film that the videos were taken from looks quite good.

| You learn something new every day. On page 38, one of the boys says "I peel off a yellowboy" (referring to a $20 bill). I had never heard of this before, but apparently "yellow boy" was an English slang term from the 19th century referring to a gold coin (sovereign or guinea). So I guess it gradually became a reference to paper money in the USA. Who says comics aren't educational? |

| Re: Yellow boy. In the mid- 19th century yellow-backed gold certficates were redeemable for gold but treated like a medium of exchange like greenbacks. They looked much the same except for the colors. Technically gold but functionally paper. So one could "peel a yellow boy" off one's roll. They were also sometimes called shin plasters. But that is another story. :) |
