Thank you, Jetstone, for the great, upgraded, upload of this fantastic book! |
|
The black and white page 2 is signed Joe Kubert, but I've never seen that signature before. It's not typical Kubert Art.
The story is penciled by Infiantino. Possible inked by more than one person.
The additional info from Grand Comics Database on the other copy doesn't give any artist credits.
The second story is early Wally Wood.
A nice one tho. |

Wow! That cover again. It sure gets around! Not sure about the filler story. Wood or Adkins? Or maybe both? |
|
I was surprised by the topical nature of the lead story. It implies a personality cult regarding Terrano, and the use of misinformation to achieve a political end. I appreciated that, for all the horrors inflicted on Mars by Terrano, he was still shown mercy in his punishment. Would our world be that humane now? |
|
Good question. Maybe we should wait and see how our world treats Donald Trump? |
|
That signature looks like it says "Sue Kubert " Is there such a person ? |
|
The penciller of 'Tarrano Strikes (8 pages)' is definitely Infantino.
Joe Kubert's wife was Muriel and none of his children were named Sue.
Neither the cover or page 2 don't really look like Kubert'd work.
The penciled image on the cover could be Infantino.
Both the cover and page 2 look like the penciller and the inker were two different people. The signature is likely a composite of both inker and penciller.
I doubt Joe Kubert had much to do with this book at all.
Wally Wood? or Sid Check? |
|
The inside front cover is indeed by Joe Kubert, putting on a fancy signature. Kubert also inked Infantino on the first chapter. They made a great team. I wish he'd have inked the rest of the chapters. It's almost impossible to make out Infantino's pencils under Vince Alascia's inks. |

Notes | The comic book is an unacknowledged adaptation of Ray Cummings' science fiction novel "Tarrano the Conquerer" that began appearing as a serial in the July 1926 edition of Amazing Stories, and has been reprinted many times since. It is actually a pretty faithful adaptation of the novel. |
