Do you suppose Pete Townshend ever read this? |
|
This book is a hodge-podge of stories reprinted from various sources: HappyJack was "Handy Andy" in EC Comics' "Dandy Comics", Sparkie was originally printed in "Big Jon and Sparkie Comics" published by Ziff-Davis, The "Alice" story was issued by Ziff-Davis, The Tailspin Taylor story was commissioned by St. John. Red Top Comics, like Decker Comics was a reprint line of comics published by Robert Farrell, in 1957 and '58, issuing only stories from various publishers, from printing plates he bought at bargain-basement prices from publishers going out of business, or from warehouses clearing out their leftover stock from defunct publishers, just like Israel Waldman did for his IW and Super Comics, and Norlen Comics did. Much of this 1951 and '52 Ziff-Davis stock was first bought by Archer St. John, and reprinted by them in 1953 and '54, and then bought again by Farrell, and reprinted, along with other St. John stock, in Farrell's Decker and Red Top Comics in 1957 and '58. |

The Who - Happy Jack - LIVE (1967)
https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_qgrG_ZxEY&ab_channel=Beat-Club
This Happy Jack was a Donkey, I think 'Jack' was US slang for Donkey.
[He lived in the sand at the Isle of Men
The kids would all sing, he would take the wrong key
So they rode on his head on their furry donkey
The kids couldn't hurt Jack
They tried and tried and tried
They dropped things on his back
And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied
But they couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping
And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy]
Great Rock song, great lyrics. |
