Thanks to DCM, there is a lot of info about/concerning this booklet. The CCC (Comics Campaign Council) was formed as a pressure group and was led by a member of the communist party. This link will shed light on the subject. https://www.mentalfloss.com/history/scotland-gorbals-vampire-hunt There is more information about this book at the bottom of the page

Well, this is a corker. Another attempt to rouse parents and teachers to rise up against the horrors of comics in the UK. Mr Pumphrey has done his research and puts his arguments quite well. However, his assertion of "a minimum of words" is really odd. Even if he's referring to comics for younger children, those without word balloons, featured text boxes. And when I was a wee boy, I didn't buy my comics from dingy back street shops.
I hope this booklet will generate some interesting comments.

This was cool. Interesting to see the British version of the US comic scare. 1956 and some of the same arguments made today for other things.

I've read excerpts of this in various books on the subject but it's fantastic to see the original - thanks!
Britain's comic moral panic always been curious for being directed firmly against American imports rather than the medium in general, partly due to the power held by the British publishers being largely the same people who printed the newspapers.
IIRC it turned out a lot of the agitation was linked to the British Communist Party, who wanted to stop British kids getting drip-fed American ideals and language.
A note for anyone BTW is that those circulation figures on P5 are /weekly/ - it is downright staggering how many comics were sold in the UK in the fifties, I seem to remember either Comet or Sun or both got cancelled because their circulation dropped below 200k a week and Fleetway had something like 15 titles doing much better.

A most interesting addition to your personal library. Well researched. Much food for thought.
