Image for Atomic Comics And Books

Although much work had been preceded it, the 'Atomic Age' is generally considered to have started in 1945 with the detonation of the first atomic bomb, Trinity. This was followed in the same year with the bombing of Hiroshima.

Apart from the obvious destructive powers, there was widespread optimism that nuclear energy would be as big a step forward for humanity as the discovery of how to make fire. Energy would be so cheap that it would not be worth metering. The only downside was the threat of atomic weapons being used by an enemy. But duck and cover, hide under a table and everything should be fine.

For marketing purposes the word atomic was prefixed wherever possible. The comic book industry was no exception as can be seen with the titles beneath.

As we all know today, this optimism was misplaced and the dangers were vastly underestimated. The benefits of nuclear energy are currently the source of much heated debate. But, hopefully it will not detract from your enjoyment of this category.

We have 15 titles and 151 issues in our 'Atomic Category' for you to enjoy.
