Goofy moonlighting? Going under the name, (wait for it) Donald Dogg?!!.
A pattern starts to emerge. Somebody trying to make a point?
Something interesting going on. |

The Cheerie Chick story previously appeared in Atomic Rabbit #5, and the entire book was also printed twice by I.W Publishing/Super Comics under the titles Tuffy Turtle and Sharpy Fox. |
|
All the stories in this book were originally produced by Fago Brothers Studios in 1945, in partnership with Robert Farrell, to be published in their partnership's "Kiddie Kapers" series. The inner contents (stories and puzzle pages) were slated to appear in issue #2 of that series. The adverts were current, for 1957, and the front cover was reprinted from the plate from Fox Features' Ribtickler #3, from 1946. All of Green Publishing's comic book issues were reprints, which, I believe, were purchased from several printer's warehouses "going out of business sales", similar to Israel Waldman getingt his material for IW and Super comics. I don't believe that Green bought the original art or plates directly from National Allied Publications, MLJ, Fawcett, Fox Features, Charlton, and other publishers, especially given that MLJ Publishing would not likely allow several of their comic books to be reprinted by another (rival) publisher only a mere 2 years after they first hit the newsstands. Although Farrell's and Al Fago's "Kiddie Kapers" was long out of business in 1957, Farrell was reprinting his own past funny animal comics material in his Ajax line of comics in that year(including "Kiddie Kapers), and Al Fago was doing the same with his "Kiddie Kapers" previously unpublished material, in his Charlton releases, as he was Charlton's Chief Editor, and was paid to produce children's comics for them. The same stories from this book were reprinted again, only one year later, in 2 different issues, both with reprint front covers from other Publishers, showing titles and characters completely unrelated to the characters in the stories inside. Clearly, THAT was done to avoid being sued for copyright infringement. |

Notes | Byline changed from "by Gabby" to "by an Old Ranny" and the dialogue balloons also change every instance of "Gabby" to "Ranny."
This version has slightly altered artwork from the "Gabby Hayes" version--for example, the face of Gabby (especially on the first page and most notably on the next-to-last panel on the last page) has been changed so that "Ranny" looks less like the real-life Gabby and more like a generic old-timer. The final panel also has a caption box added.
It is possible that even the "Gabby Hayes" version was a reprint, since Jack A. Warren's comics career was largely in the 1930s and 1940s. |
