Black Venus proves Harvey Kurtzman was not cut out to do superhero comics! This early art is almost painful. Johnny (p. 12) bears an uncanny resemblance to Rocco Vargas' sidekick in Daniel Torres' sci-fi series.

The interesting thing about Harvey Kurtzman is that he never attempted to change his style. I'm sure he was a good enough draftsman to have done so. Which indicates a very strong will. The strangest thing about him, for me, was his partnership with John Severin. Their styles to me,don't go together at all,and yet they did. Just realized, Kurtzman ended up at Mad, Severin ended up at Crazy. Hmm! Indicates they did have a lot in common.
