GCD lists the title for the first story in this August 1947 book as 'Cosmo Cat and the Evil Genie', and the first story's pages 2 through 7 are indeed about an evil genie. The story's first page is on the inside front cover with correct indicia for #8, but it starts a different story titled 'Ants in the Antarctic' and the dialogue on the page mentions ants. GCD has no 'Ants in the Antarctic' story entry at all. Worthpoint currently has an accessible listing (https:www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/all-top-comics-sept-1947-fox-cosmo-1873843814) titled ALL TOP COMICS #7 (SEPT 1947 FOX) COSMO CAT IN 'ANTS IN THE ANTARCTIC!' and the cover of All Top Comics #7[b], an issue for which there is no detailed information at GCD. Is the rest of 'Ants in the Antarctic' in All Top Comics #7[b]? Where is the opening page of 'Cosmo Cat and the Evil Genie'? (In All Top Comics' next issue (#8, November of 1947), it made an abrupt switch from humor to action strips; perhaps this lent to the confusion?)

No. Cosmo Cat starring in "Ants In The Antarctic" is NOT in "All Top Comics 7". Its lone 'Cosmo Cat" story is "The Joker". My own copy of this book also has the first page of "Ants in The Antarctic", as does the copy scanned to DCM (the same exact book as this one). So, given that we all have the same book the scanner must have matched the wrong cover to the wrong coverless book (which is NOT really Cosmo Cat). We are also missing "Cosmo Cat 9". But all the stories for that book are listed, and "Ants in The Antarctic" is not one of them. And none of the stories in THIS book are in #9. So, perhaps Cosmo Cat had a #11, and it is in that one. But no #11 issue is known by anyone. If it is not in that unknown book, it must have been issued in another Fox book, or else was already drawn for #11, and never issued, except for Page 1 used in this book. A very strange mystery, I hope will be solved eventually, by the purchase and scanning of the book containing it. I hope I'll be alive to see it.

Robb K. states 'Cosmo Cat starring in "Ants In The Antarctic" is NOT in "All Top Comics 7". Its lone 'Cosmo Cat" story is "The Joker".' But this overlooks the fact that there were two different issues of All Top numbered 7. The GCD calls the July 1947 issue #7 [a] and the September 1947 issue #7 [b]. #7 [a] has "The Joker". Issue #7 [b] is thinly indexed in the GCD; Feature names and page counts are listed, but not story titles, first lines or synopses. Two more oddities about that page. The panels have rounded corners which I haven't seen on any other Fox funny animal comic in this time frame. Suspicious to me. And the indicia says this is the August 1947 issue, but also says the contents are copyright 1946.

Thanks Pat, for bringing up your comment regarding "All Top Comics 7b". I don't know why I didn't mention the 2nd Issue 7. But, it is clear to me that the scanner of this comic book was missing the front cover page, and the inside front cover was Page 1 of the Evil Genie story. The scanner probably got a scan of the front cover from Heritage Auctions' website. The curved panel corners make me think that the scanner just used the first page of a Cosmo Cat story he didn't see used in any otherFox Features comic book to which he had access. It must have come from a 1950s reprint of The Antarctic Ants story in an I.W. or other reprint book, just to place a story beginning on this book that was missing the first story first page. The Antarctic Ants story was likely to have been in the Worthpoint book, but none of CB+s or DCM's scanners ever were able to buy a copy of that rare book, so we don't have a copy to scan and upload. Maybe the 2nd All Top 7 was planned for whatever reason, but decided not to be issued because Fox changed their plans for All Top's series, to become a Human-figure adventure series with Issue #8. But the artwork had been finished, and maybe some books were even already printed. When Fox went out of business, the printing plates were left at the printer's warehouse. Budget publishers like I.W. Comics, Norlen Publishing, and Green Publications bought such plates when the warehouses sold all their assets when printing companies went out of business. So, lots of older stories that were drawn but not issued, or, both drawn and printed, but never issued, were then issued many years later in reprint series. We need to have our scanners get hold of books with complete versions of these stories. Personally, I'd like to find out why Fox would issue, or, at least, plan to issue 2 different versions of the same numbered title. It's ironic that they decided to do that just before deciding ton change the subject genre of that series, but would keep the same numbering system continuing from where the old genre series left off, just because they didn't want to pay the extra cost of starting up a new series. That demonstrates what very thin profit margins they had due to their low product revenue of only 10¢ per unit.

"Maybe the 2nd All Top 7 was planned for whatever reason, but decided not to be issued because Fox changed their plans for All Top's series, to become a Human-figure adventure series with Issue #8. " I believe it was published. They certainly told the Copyright Office they published two #7 issues, and the publication date stated is exactly 2 months after the previous #7, and exactly two months before #8 (i.e. May 2 - July 2 - Sep. 2)
