This is the final issue of Captain Science but never fear, the numbering continues as Fantastic #8 which contains the next, and final, Captain Science story. Fantastic lasted two issues, but with #10 the title changed to Beware, and became a horror/suspense comic book.

As far as borrowing the ending from "War of the Worlds", Wells himself did that for "First Men in the Moon".
