Thinking about it, it may not be entirely coincidental that Dell debuted their comic THE FROGMEN only a couple of months after the series SEA HUNT ended its TV run... and the Dell comic SEA HUNT only had two more issues, after THE FROGMEN first appeared. If I had to guess, I'd say sales were still probably good enough on the comic book, but not way above average, so Dell declined to renew their license agreement with the TV people because that additional fee gobbled up a chunk of Dell's profit -- so it would seem the solution was to create an original series which Dell itself owned that didn't require them to pay a licensing fee, but would still satisfy an audience of readers hankering for some underwater adventures.
