Synopsis | Kathy’s mother ran off with another man when Kathy was a baby. As Kathy grows up, her attitude is adversely affected by the scandal and she rebuffs all romantic attentions directed her way. Fellow office worker Denis is persistent but when she defensively rejects him, he says “there’s a devil inside of you” that makes her anti-social and bitter. She decides to leave town but Denis catches up with her and she admits she loves him as well. |

He and Beth date, then fall in love. Roxy tries to win him back, but Stephen won’t fall for her tricks again. |

At Millie's urging, Jeff undergoes a risky operation to restore his sight and Diane comes back. However, Jeff realizes he loves Millie. |
