Manius Aquillius, Roman governor of Sicily, was punished for his greed by being forced to swallow ten pounds of molten gold. The temple built by King Lý Thái Tông in Hanoi in 1049 was created because of a strange and moving dream. In the dream, King Lý saw the vision of a one-legged goddess, and it so affected him that he had one of his own legs amputated, married a one-legged queen, established a court populated by one-legged courtesans, and built a temple, a temple that rises on only one leg.
