| Synopsis | A rich industrialist named Wade paid a genealogist a huge sum of money to trace his family history and invited me to inspect the results. According to the genealogist, Wade was the descendant of an English earl. The genealogist showed a letter which included the quote, "Due to kaleidoscopic events taking place in the colonies, I intend to leave England and join the forces of Washington and Liberty". The letter was dated 1777. I told Wade his family historian was a quack. I'll tell you why. In the case of the wrong word, the expression "kaleidoscopic events" was used. The letter was dated 1777. It so happens the kaleidoscope was not invented until 1817, so the letter and the genealogist were faked. | ||||
