| Synopsis | When Gaylord Leonard called me to help authenticate a new find of his, another in his collection of pirate lore, I rushed to his house. At the entrance to his library was a cask, the kind used to store rum. It was carved with the traditional skull and crossbones and signed Bartholomew Roberts. We knew that Roberts was a notorious pirate, but both Leonard and I also knew the cast was a swindler's work of art. I'll tell you how we knew. In the case of the Whiskey Mystery, I knew that the pirate Roberts was a teetotaller. He also wouldn't allow gambling or women on his ships, so the rum cast with his signature was a bloody fake. | ||||
