| Synopsis | I joined Detective Larker in the investigation of a supposed suicide in an exclusive apartment house. Nothing had been touched. Mrs. Spencer lay dead in her bed, her blankets almost up to her chin, and a small bullet hole in her temple. A suicide note lay alongside which told of despondency over some large debt. Her husband, who'd been waiting in the next room, was practically in tears as I asked him to tell me what he knew of the woman's activities up till the time of death. I wanted to see how much he would lie. I'll explain why. In the case of the Sleepyhead murder, you recall the blankets over the dead woman were up to her chin. She couldn't have shot herself, then pulled the blankets up. It was a poorly planned murder. | ||||
