SynopsisTwo men faced Inspector O'Doyle and me. One, a bookkeeper named Wilkins, claimed the other had burst into his apartment with such violence the door knocked him to the ground. Then the intruder beat him up. The other, claiming innocence, said he was only a private detective who'd been assigned to Wilkins on a case. "I didn't get this cut from fighting with Wilkins", he said. "I got it when I bumped my face against the hinge on Wilkins' door while listening to him on the phone inside". I whispered to O'Doyle, "Know who's lying? I do". I'll explain. In the case of the wrong way door, you recall Wilkins said the man threw open the door, knocking down Wilkins, who was inside. Therefore, the hinges were on the inside, not on the outside, as the private detective had said.
