While on a hunting weekend, I was called in by local police to assist in a murder investigation. A retired miner had been found stabbed to death, and the only suspect was a wanderer who had been picking blackberries nearby. I questioned the man. "Isn't it a little early for picking blackberries", I asked? "Oh, no, the man said, I'll find a few, then come back and pick the next batch after the green berries ripen". "You know nothing of the murder", I asked. He said, "no", I disagree. 'll tell you why. In the case of the blackberry killer, the man said he'd come back after the green berries ripen. Blackberries are red, not green, before they ripen. The local berry picker was a murderer.
