I'd always thought product placement in dramatic shows was a recent trend, but now I wonder. Listening to a number of CBS Philip Marlowe episodes I notice that if a car is named it's always a Nash, service stations are always Mobil stations, and several women have "Ry-Krisp waistlines."

Oh, product placement is an old thing. They used to have people on staff to work these things out. Before the law made it illegal a use of a product name on air would usually get a gift from the company for the advertising.
