SynopsisHigh school student Jayne has a crush on Harry, a “much older” business associate of her father (he’s 29), but Harry marries another woman. After graduation, Jayne moves to New York and meets “dozens of men” but they all pale in comparison to her memory of Harry. She dates lawyer Paul but after three years still can’t commit to marriage; she promises an answer after she visits her hometown. Harry is now a “rapidly-aging male going soft and paunchy, his hair receding fast.” Harry makes a pass at her and Jayne rejects him. Now freed from her “fantastic memories,” she decides to marry Paul.

However, Susie doesn’t speak to him before she gets off the train. Susie confesses to her grandmother that he might have been her “big chance” for romance. Grandma tracks down Richard and gets him to the farm on a pretext: he and Susie are reunited.
