Among the books that "inform, amuse, teach" is Joe Miller's Joke Book! The first edition of this collection was published in 1739. Over the centuries lousy jokes you've heard a million times came to be known as "Joe Millers." Just the thing to amuse your 1960s friends: two-hundred-year-old jokes. By the way, "the master himself," a noted actor, had nothing to do with the book. In fact he'd been dead a year when the book came out. The publisher was just cashing in on Miller's reputation.
