they remind me of sketch up scenes on site artist at movie and tv studios use. Its like all of the art is in rough draft but it isn't intentional but hey they were freebies - several family restaurants in US had freebie comics on their paper place-mats used for kids and a coloring book with comics about their own restaurant. Howars Johnson's - HOJOs Sambos California Big Boy these were all roadside Americana chains that were at their height during mid-century style period in USA - Did regional chains in Europe have the same ? Im talking sit down waiter service not fast food.

Georges Mazure's art in these five book is remarkable. His brush-and-wash technique and mixture of realistic and stylized drawing make the panels look more like magazine illustrations than comics. A pleasant discovery.

An interesting find – what starts off as a travelogue soon becomes a mystery when our school tourists stumble across a ‘haunted’ ruined chateau, Dolf is threatened by a spiv-like character in sunglasses and fedora; the kids’ victuals are stolen and the car tyre slashed by a spooky visitor in the night. Bravely, the boys vote to remain and slowly penetrate the true reason for the spiv’s desire to see them go. What a great idea for supermarkets to give away free comic books to attract their younger customers (and family)!

Mazure's brushwork is wonderful. It's a nice change from unshaded black and white, very defining mainly outside lines in some inked comics of the time. When I lived in Den Haag for 30+ years, Spar was my main supermarket. Brings back the old days. Dolf Staal was surprisingly interesting for a young boy's adventure comic. I am now uploading Nr. 6, "Man Overboord", adventurous sea tale, - completing the series here on CB+! Check it out!
