Spotlight Publishers shone the spotlight on Amateur Hour in these books. However little they paid for these cartoons, it was too much.
   By dwilt
(a) huge number of ads for other "books" in this publication, so it might have been considered a "loss leader," i.e., spend almost nothing putting together minimal content in hopes that readers will spend $$ buying your other stuff (at higher prices, and much of it--probably misleadingly--advertised as risque). (b) About half the cartoons are by "Sgt. O'Brien," and the other half (the looser, sketchier stuff) by one other artist. (c) if you look VERY closely, pg. 39 looks like a swipe from a "Wash Tubbs" cartoon.
