Just what was the story with Green Publishing?
And why is there an MLJ Black Hood story in the middle of the book? |
All of the stories are from "Top Notch Laugh Comics" #41. Green reprinted a lot of MLJ and Fox stories--it's also possible that they just put a new cover on remaindered copies of Top Notch Laugh Comics 41 (all of the stories are in the same order as the original) except that one story is missing. |
Roly Poly added in the Black Hood story into the middle of their book. So, it's not likely that these were already bound insides. It's a lot more likely that Green got ahold of the MLJ plates or original art in a warehouse sale, or a special deal with MLJ, who had already changed Top-Notch Laugh to Laugh Comics, and their book's features had mostly changed to other (new) features with new lead characters. |
Many years ago I bought Roly Poly #10 because it contained Steel Sterling and Red Rube. The "funnies" didn't appeal to me but derring-do did. It was cheaper than a "real" MLJ comic.
We have #10 on site. Nice Irv Novick art. |
