I looked at that cover and thought, clearly the blonde is the superhero's former sidekick and the other gal is her replacement. ;-)

Some very strange artwork in this comic, to match the strange stories. Whoever thought up having a real celebrity (Tony Martin) play a supporting role in a typical romance story? In "A Faded Summer Love" the artist strives mightily but he's lost without his photo reference. He does succeed in making a couple of lingerie shots some of the near-nudiest Golden Age cheesecake I've seen. Then on the last page he spills a bottle of ink onto the page and leaves most of it there. Check out the last panel. "I Hated My Love"is a bizarre Svengali story with characters who look like Gerry Anderson marionettes. Fine entertainment overall.

My thought on that cover was;- 'Oh Jerry how could you do this to me?' Given the figures in the background - 'do exactly what? '

"Youthful Romances" may have started their celebrity tie-in with issue 8 (not online yet so we can't be sure). But certainly at least from 9-14 the lead story in each issue featured a popular singer. These all used the singer (Guy Mitchell, Don Cornell, Mel Torme, Richard Hayes, Tony Martin, Tony Bennett) as a deus ex machina to reunite two lovers. These comics were published in the period when solo singers had taken over from big bands and before rock and roll got started, so even though we might view these celebrities as doing "music for old people," that wasn't the case at the time.
