BLACK VULTURE COMICS was published by NSW Bookstall Co in the early 1940s. It contains two stories – one featuring the villainous BLACK VULTURE and the other the heroic DR MENSANA. Both stories are written and drawn by Tom Hubble, AKA Hub. Dr Mensana made three further appearances, and is often described as Australia’s first superhero (the first to exhibit super powers.) I like the art. Lots of texture, possibly to make up for the lack of colour.

A historical note: This was at the beginning of the Australian Comics Golden Age, when the government banned the import of American comics and syndicated proofs (among other things), and the desire to read comics lead to the invigoration of the local comics industry. But no new periodicals could be created (this prohibition ceased at the end of WWII), so the new comics were all one-shots, even though some characters appeared multiple times - like Dr Mensana.
