NotesTIM VALOUR 30 (series 2) by John Dixon was published by Action Comics in February 1953 (estimated). It includes two Tim Valour stories, with Tim working as a ‘Special Security Agent’ with missions all over the world (Mexico and New Guinea in these stories). Dixon was very interested in airplanes, and many of his characters are pilots.

Though the backgrounds and equipment in the second story show Dixon's mature style, the figures are much cruder than those in the lead story. Is this a reprint from Dixon's younger days? Or is another artist involved?

I believe that the second story is by another artist. Dixon has a quite distinct style, particularly with faces. The second story is quite different.

A couple of notes: This is issue 30, the 39 is presumably a typo I didn't notice making. It's suggested that the second story is not by John Dixon - this may well be the case, given the style and the lack of Dixon's signature anywhere. The "drawn in Australia" caption on page 1 of the second story is unusual, but I don't recall seeing it anywhere else (so far!). It may be a stylistic thing to the actual artist, if other examples show up. Dixon did make use of other artists (at least in his Air Hawk newspaper strip), so it wouldn't be a shock if it happened. (Compare this to issue 29, which also has two stories, but both are certainly by Dixon.)
