Silver Age pre-Ditko Blue Beetle not allowed?
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:29:46 PM »

In the general Charlton section , where all the comics are listed, it says this in the Blue Beetle (1950s) listing

(1955 Series)
February 1955 - August 1955

Issues published:
18-21

COMPLETE SERIES (sort of...)

Tracking:
Formerly The Thing! (#1-17); becomes Mr. Muscles with issue #22.

NOTE - Charltan would later do a Silver Age version starting in 1964 that we cannot host.

No it's not the misspelling of Charlton that I noticed. I'm just wondering why the two runs of early 60s BB would be off limits.
They do have "International rights secured. All rights reserved." in the indicia.

Mainly because of not wanting to upset DC. It may be something we can consider if Janus approves.

If it's pre-1964 and wasn't renewed (or post 1964 and without a shadow of a dobut the copyright wasn't registered or increctly formed notice.) - it's public domain. Just because DC has a "trademark" on a VERSION of The Blue Beetle, it shouldn't preclude it's presence here.

There's careful, and then there is TOO Careful.

AC's reprinted public-domain "Blackhawk" and "Kid Eternety" Stories for goodness sakes - and DC holds trademarks on those characters (well, Blackhawk atleast!)

My guess is Janus will OK it. Previous admin did not get into SA at all so I think we should be OK. As soon as Janus says OK we can get some up.

If Janus approves, great. GAC member Izbot found scans of all of them and shared them with me. The first #1 from 1964 is missing the ifc and thus has no indicia, but I think all the others do.

If you have your own scans, even better as Izbot's were nameless.

I have all but a few of the very early Captain Atom but I have the reprints of them. I think I have all the scans also picked up elsewhere.
