Cash Gorman

My online acquaintance and colleague Cash Gorman lost his Golden Age Comics Encyclopedia website when Geocities collapsed.  Since I do not have the software to assist him in rebuilding his site, I was hoping one of you fellows could assist Cash in putting the Encyclopedia back online.

The site will be back up sometime in the near future, probably under the name of herogoggles (the name of my blog at blogspot). I thought I had a plus account with geocities which would have made the transferring fairly easy and with automatic re-directs. However, there was some kind of glitch. Either I hadn't been paying for a plus account for almost a year but had still been enjoying all the perks, or with the shutdown, they lost all the records post 2007 regarding my account. Short answer, no easy update with the referral pages. I hadn't really had time to devote to it since I was trying to finish up the graphics for a Centaur related project at the same time as the geocities shutdown. And, there's the inertia, knowing I need to re-design the pages and update the links as this would be the prime time to do so. AND try to find a paying job.

If you can't find something straightforward and don't mind being left with a Linux shell, I use a VPS for my web services, and it wouldn't take more than a few minutes to get you an account on the machine and have the web server respond to whatever domain(s) you care to point in.  It's not high-speed, but it works.

If you need something "heavier," like database access or a ton of disk space, that's also doable, but I'd probably need to charge, since I'd need to upgrade my plan with Linode (who I highly recommend, for anybody working on a large project, by the way--nice guys with a good quality product).

I've also heard pretty good things about xtreemhost.  I almost went with them, being free, able to cope with domains, and having plenty of space and bandwidth, but they couldn't support the software I needed to run.

It's taken most of the day, but I've got most of the old website moved and the pages streamlined a bit. There's still some work to go to get an overall consistency, but the pages and information are at least back up with a whole bunch new information.

Gone is the "Cash Gorman" name and logos, though it still remains my email. After the runarounds with geocities and yahoo that I've had in the past, my new web host is fatcow and I can say already in one day, their customer service has been lightyears ahead what I got with geocities.

The new address is www.herogoggles.com

Check it out.

Thanks Ed.  Your site was among the first I ever found when I went looking for GA information.  A wonderful resource for all the fans of the hobby out there.

I really cannot talk up FatCow enough. In the two days with them, they have blown Yahoo/Geocities out of the water in terms of customer service. I had a minor technical issue yesterday with all of the uploading, as soon as you sign into their site they have their phone numbers at the top and the option of doing Livechat online with tech support. This compares with yahoo/geocities who hid their phone numbers and contact information for any kind of support. Your most frequent resort was to emailing where you might get a reply back sometime that same day and who seemed to strive to avoid actually answering or dealing with the actual problems. The two times I have had technical issues with them and my site, it has taken over a week each time to get almost nowhere. Last time, I almost had to threaten a lawsuit over false advertising and misleading business practices to get any real results (their techs were claiming they didn't support my ftp client which I had been using for a couple of years and had suddenly stopped working with their sites but their web pages still actually recommended the ftp client). I was able to talk with someone and fix my problem in the amount of time it took me to figure out just how to contact someone with yahoo/geocities.

Then, today, a representative from FatCow called me to thank me for signing up and seeing how things were going, if I needed anything and how they could meet my webpage needs and growth.

And, they're green, wind-powered. How cool.

Wonderful site ed I'm fairly new here and before finding Golden Age I had no idea how much of the good stuff has been saved and made available online.

Several years ago some friends who I've worked with on independent films did an experimental non budget mixed Comic panel and live action Super Hero film, not oscar material by a longshot but the basic story idea was fine.
One day we may dust that idea off and do a real budgeted feature film.
