« on: August 26, 2020, 08:37:45 PM »

Hi. My name is Diane and I have just joined the group.
Does anyone know the value of the 1926 Sexton Blake bust made by Eric Parker?
Thanks.

Hello and Welcome Dianne.
You might find out here.
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/sexton-blake-sculptured-bust-union-248511063
I'm not going to sign in and find out, but if you do and get a valuation, please come back and let us know, there would be a few of us who would be interested. But not cashed up enough to make a bid!
Cheers!
The information on Eric Parker is definitely of interest here too, so we thank you.

extremely rare Sexton Blake sculptured bust by Eric Parker for Union Jack comics in 1924.

Quote
Eric Parker was a prolific artist who began illustrating the detective's adventures in Union Jack comics in 1922. Prior to that time a number of artists had contributed to the comic but it was Parker's depiction which became the one that has remained associated with Blake. In 1929 he began painting full covers for the Sexton Blake library and in a period lasting almost 30 years he painted nearly 900 covers for the publication. In 1926 Parker modeled a plaster bust of Sexton Blake. This bust featured in a comic called ' The Case Of The Sexton Blake Bust' published by Union Jack in March 1926. Readers could obtain one of the free plaster busts by introducing a number of friends to the Union Jack comic. About 850 of these busts were originally produced but because they were only made from cheap plaster they were very easily broken and only around a dozen are known to exist today.

Fascinating! To quote the Vulcan with the pointy ears.

Hi Dianesam - originally sold for 3/6d apparently - I bet it's worth a bob or two more now.

Mr Parker's excellent comic strip work is a joy to behold.
