It's interesting! On the cover, Tarka is portrayed as a cross between Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers and John Carter, but inside, his Martian clothes are more like Adam Strange in the DC comics (although blue rather than red).

I agree with the Australian Panther that the one story is a lot like Planet of the Apes. Add some animals with anthropomorphic intelligence and coordination and you'd have either than or Jack Kirby's Kamandi.
