The information below I originally posted in a forum having nothing whatsoever to do with Comics, but I have thought about it and its general information useful for anybody regularly using PC's and up or downloading regularly. So thought I would share these tips here.
if you have Opera, Vivaldi or Otter browser ( based on Opera) you can access an addon that links the wayback machine to your Browser. The wayback machine keeps copies of old webpages. So, if you have a link for a site that doesn't exist anymore and you type it in your browser, you should be able to bring up the page. You probably won't be able to access the links, but you will have the information.
https://www.online-convert.com/ is an online converter for nearly every file type. This you can use online or install on your computer. It will install as an add-on in several browsers. Extremely useful.
Also the below might be of interest to some of us who use media via USB. Note the simple instructions to return to the default setting. I haven't noticed any noticable difference, I have to admit.
Microsoft changes how Windows 10 disconnects USB storage devices
https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-changes-how-windows-10-disconnects-usb-storage-devices/ Here's a new add-on to stop ads. And it's as tough as it looks. (Chrome, Firefox, waterfox) StopReclame.
http://stopreclame.com/#!/home?lang=en Also Privacy Possum
https://www.ghacks.net/2018/05/07/privacy-possum-is-privacy-badger-on-steroids/ Last but not least we have Universal Bypass
https://universal-bypass.org/ This is the description:-
Universal Bypass has bypasses for sites which make you wait (Adf.ly, Adfoc.us, Shorte.st, etc.), sites which make you do something (sub2unlock.com, etc.) and even trackers (Bit.ly, Goo.gl, T.co, etc.). Plus, you can write custom bypasses!
Sounds good, no?
Haven't used it yet, so don't know if it works.
Anybody regularly using the internet presently ought to be thinking about using a VPN ( Virtual Private Network) All browsers now have VPN's as standard in their addons. There is a setting on the current update of Win 10 to set up a Windows VPN as part of the operating system. Don't know if I would recommend. that. Here is a site grading VPN's.
https://www.vpnteacher.com/best-vpn/NORD VPN which I think orignally comes out of Switzerland, is tempting right now as they are offering a 3 year signup discount. If you want to access sites like Zippyshare which has currently been blocked in both the UK and Germany this is the best option. Zippy is still out there and active I can assure you. I think in a short time everybody will be using VPN's
A Judge in Australia, who had a case before him to block a number of download sites, said that he was obliged to do so by law, but that he considered it a pointless thing to do, ' Like Playing Wackamole with websites'
Anyway I hope this is helpful for some of you.
