French? Amazing stuff. Since you never really see anything like this in 'realistic'  Historical movies or TV series, you would be inclined to believe that these are all fictional, made up.I can tell you that in the 90's on bus trips through Ghana, I saw hawkers doing much the same thing on the sides of the roads. Whenever the bus or car stops, they would run over and try to sell something through the window.
